Hold Southway Housing accountable for the distress they cause to vulnerable tenants

The Issue

I am a tenant of Southway Housing Trust.

In 2017 I became very sick and ended up being bedridden for a year,  and in a wheelchair for over three years, I could not wash, dress, feed, cloth and look after myself in any way possible and my son became my carer he was 18 years old at the time. Subsequently I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertention, Lupus, Inflammatory Arthritis and Systemic Sclerosis, I also developed benign lumps and needed Chemotherapy and Iloprost Infusions and other intrusive and painful ,physical, mental and emotional treatments

In this time I was not in receipt of benefits and I could not heat my home, resulting in damp and mould being present in my home namely my bedroom where I lay critically ill, and in my son's room who has acute asthma. I contacted Southway Housing Trust, but they did not support us and refused my request of a wet room, even though the only toilet in the property was downstairs at the back of the house, and I could not make it there in time, so I was lay in my stools urine and blood from my period and I was also having to use two buckets to go to the toilet in which my son had to empty regularly.

Despite phone calls and letters from the consultants , who were supporting me,  namely MRI Peter Mount Building , Patrick Cryne, The Kellgren Centre, The Cecilia Clinic , The Nightingale Centre, Wythenshawe Hospital Hepatology and Nephrology MRI,  Southway Housing Trust still refused to help us., my health and my son's health have deteriorated due to the conditions in my home, which have been made worst due to the damp and mould

I have approached the Regulator of Social Housing, Fiona MacGregor , my local MP Jeff Smith,, various Council Members in my area for the Chorlton and Withington area of Manchester, Joanna Midgely and Dave Rawson,  and even through the "Beast of the East" when we had no money for gas and food and were only wrapped in blankets our cries for support landed on deaf ears.

I recently wrote to The Press, Inside Housing who approached Southway Housing Trust for comment and they said that they did not know of the damp and mould in my home,  even though Southway Housing operatives came to my home and were rude and dismissive even making fun of my hands that were deformed because of my disability, and even going as far as saying they could not get access into my home.

I am asking you today to hold Southway Housing Trust accountable for the physical, mental and emotional distress that me and my son have endured for the last 7 years, we will not get those dark and difficult years back but with compensation and a proper apology and owning up to the fact that they have not treated me as a vulnerable and disabled person, and my son and other vulnerable tenants who I have raised the alarm about, who also needed a welfare check and support, did not receive help either.

More needs to be done to help myself and other vulnerable tenants all over the UK to hold Housing Associations like Southway Housing Trust accountable and for the Regulator Of Social Housing to step in sooner when a welfare case is raised.

I do this for all the vulnerable people out there who don't have a voice and are afraid to come forward.

If we join together and become One Voice they will have to take notice and act on our behalf thank you for reading and supporting me.

Updated.  I forced Southway Housing Trust to do the outstanding repairs after I contacted the Press Inside Housing,  The compensation offered wasn't very good and the Housing Ombudsman shortchanged me like they have done to other tenants,  thank you for everyone who shared, signed and contributed to my cause thank you;)
