On July 12, 2024, my world was turned upside down. My 16-year-old son, full of life and vigor, was cruelly taken away from us. The pain and void are indescribable. According to my knowledge, teenagers have been found in possession of guns after the murdering of my son and were hastily released into home detention. A home environment where evidently, their parents failed to exhibit control. This is not just about my son; it is about every single teenager who could likely pose a threat to others while still being under parental supervision.

According to U.S. Department of Justice's report in 2019, about 15% of all serious violent crimes by juveniles involved a firearm. The frequency of these crimes suggests an alarming indifference prevalent among some parents of these juveniles. We need to hold these parents accountable for the criminal activities of their juvenile, particularly when involving guns and modified weapons.

We urge and respectfully plead with the local and state lawmakers to enforce strict laws that would impose legal consequences on parents who do not adequately secure firearms at home or fail to restrict their juvenile child's access to such weapons. By doing so, we believe it will compel parents to shoulder their responsibilities more seriously and ensure we create a safer society that respects life and law.
