Hold Labor Secretary Chavez-DeRemer Accountable For Abuse of Taxpayers Funds

Hold Labor Secretary Chavez-DeRemer Accountable For Abuse of Taxpayers Funds
The Issue
The Department of Labor is facing serious internal turmoil—and the American public deserves answers.
According to NBC News, multiple top aides to Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer have been placed on administrative leave amid an Inspector General investigation into alleged misconduct, including travel fraud and the possible abuse of taxpayer funds.
The probe also involves accusations of an inappropriate relationship between Secretary Chavez-DeRemer and a subordinate.
While the full details remain under investigation, the public already knows enough to demand accountability and transparency.
The Secretary’s chief of staff and deputy were both longtime political appointees from her time in Congress. Now, they stand accused of manufacturing professional events to justify travel that may have been personally or politically motivated. Meanwhile, Chavez-DeRemer herself is reportedly named in the formal complaint that triggered the investigation.
The White House says it “stands by” the Secretary—but we’re not interested in political loyalty. We’re interested in the truth.
We, the undersigned, call on:
- The Department of Labor’s Inspector General to complete and release a public summary of its findings as soon as the investigation is concluded;
- Congress to launch an oversight hearing if the IG probe reveals abuse of office or misuse of public funds;
- Secretary Chavez-DeRemer to step aside or be suspended pending the outcome of the investigation, to preserve public confidence and ensure an impartial process.
The Department of Labor is tasked with protecting workers—not shielding officials from scrutiny. Allegations involving travel fraud, unethical relationships, and possible misuse of federal resources cannot be brushed aside as “personnel matters.”
No one in government—regardless of title—should be above the rules they’re supposed to enforce.
Sign this petition to demand transparency, accountability, and integrity from Secretary Chavez-DeRemer and the Department of Labor.
