Hold Jared Kushner Accountable to the Same Ethics Rules as Every Official
The Issue
Jared Kushner is one of the most influential people negotiating on behalf of the United States. He has been central to talks on the wars between Israel and Hamas, Russia and Ukraine, and the US and Iran, and he frequently flies overseas to sit down with world leaders for the President. Yet he has never been confirmed by the Senate, and he has not publicly disclosed his personal finances the way other federal officials must.
The White House says Kushner is a private citizen doing this work as an unpaid volunteer. At the same time, he leads an investment company handling billions in foreign-owned assets. On October 14, 2026, the watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) sued to block him from the envoy role unless he follows the same disclosure rules as any government employee. Chad Mizelle, Kushner’s attorney, called the lawsuit “without merit,” according to the Associated Press.
The Constitution and a federal ethics law passed after Watergate exist so the public can see who is acting for the country and what financial interests they bring to the table. Disclosure isn’t an accusation. It’s a basic safeguard that lets Americans judge for themselves whether a conflict of interest could exist.
Kushner already filed these disclosures when he worked in the White House during the first Trump administration. When the job involves war, peace, and foreign money, the standard should be at least as high now.
The White House should require Jared Kushner to file a full public financial disclosure, or step back from his envoy role until he does. Accountability shouldn’t depend on whether someone takes a paycheck.
Sign the petition to hold Jared Kushner to the same ethics rules as every other official speaking for the United States.
