Hold False Rape Accusers Accountable in South Africa

The Issue

Too many lives have been destroyed by false rape accusations in South Africa. While real survivors of sexual violence deserve full protection and justice, so do those who are falsely accused and wrongfully arrested.

Our legal system currently allows individuals to be:
Arrested without physical evidence.       Expelled from university or fired from jobs,
Publicly humiliated, and
Emotionally destroyed based solely on an accusation.

And when the truth finally comes out when the accusation is shown to be false, malicious, or vengeful, the accuser faces no consequence, while the accused is left to pick up the shattered pieces of their life.

This is not justice.
This is a failure of the justice system.

We, the undersigned, demand that the South African government and justice system act now by:

1. Enforcing Criminal Accountability
All individuals found to have knowingly filed a false rape report must be investigated for perjury, defeating the ends of justice, or criminal defamation.

2. Enabling Civil Claims

Those proven to have been falsely accused must be allowed to claim financial compensation for:Legal costs,Lost academic or job opportunities, and
Emotional trauma.

 3. Restoring the Reputation of the Accused

There must be an official process to:
Publicly clear the name of the wrongfully accused,Expunge criminal records related to false claims, and
Offer mental health or academic support if their future was harmed.

 4. Creating Oversight and Legal Reform

Establish an independent panel or commission to:Review wrongful sexual offence allegations,Prevent malicious prosecution, and Recommend legal reforms that ensure both victim protection and accused rights.

This petition is not anti-women. It is pro-justice.

Every false accusation:Hurts real survivors of rape,Weakens public trust in real cases, and Destroys the lives of the innocent.

We call on the Department of Justice, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), and the Parliament of South Africa to restore fairness in the system.
