Hold D.W. Daniel High School Leaders Accountable

Hold D.W. Daniel High School Leaders Accountable
The Issue
My heart breaks as I recount the national embarrassment our community in Clemson, SC has faced due to the actions of those in leadership at D.W. Daniel High School. The recent incident at PC football camp, where a young athlete was brutally attacked by his teammates, has not only shocked us all but has highlighted a glaring problem in our local educational authorities.
We entrust our children to the schools, expecting them to not only impart knowledge but also to ensure their safety and well-being. However, Coach Chris Stone failed fundamentally in his responsibility by not providing the necessary supervision during the camp. The assault was no mere oversight; it was a result of gross negligence on his part. Moreover, Principal Adam Russell and Athletic Director Ben Touchberry, who should have acted decisively to address such a grave situation, instead attempted to cover it up, placing the football team's success over a student's safety.
This appalling behavior cannot and should not be allowed to persist. Our leaders should exemplify accountability, integrity, and empathy. These individuals have shown none of these qualities, and it is vital they be removed from positions where they can no longer represent or impact our community in such a damaging manner.
The inaction and attempts at concealment by Principal Russell and AD Touchberry signify a carelessness towards the ethical standards they are supposed to uphold. It is disturbing to know they preferred to sweep the incident under the rug rather than protect the student body. Winning should never come at the expense of student safety and trust.
This community deserves leaders who prioritize the well-being and safety of our children above sports victories or reputation maintenance. Those in positions of authority at D.W. Daniel High School must be held accountable for their actions and their failure to act appropriately in the aftermath of this tragic incident.
Let's come together as a community to call for the firing of Principal Russell, Athletic Director Touchberry, and Coach Stone. They have shown they are unfit to hold such influential roles, and it is time for change to ensure our schools remain places of safety and respect.
Join me in signing this petition to demand accountability and transformation in our educational leadership in Clemson, SC. This is a call for not just justice for the child who suffered, but a step towards preventing such an incident from ever happening again.
