Hold Buffalo State Accountable
Hold Buffalo State Accountable
The Issue
Hello everyone,
I am making this petition regarding the hot water outage at Buffalo State University. As we are approaching a week without hot water, I have many concerns. The worry only continues to grow with the vague, non-informational answers they continue to give us.
The so-called “hot shower stations” they have provided are not a solution — they are unsafe and unsanitary. They have no locks to ensure only students are using them, and the one placed outside my window is not being monitored at all. I have personally witnessed non-students roaming the area, including homeless individuals digging through garbage right where these showers are stationed. How can is the school guaranteeing student safety under these conditions? Are these showers even being cleaned regularly? We do not know because simply the school is not letting us know.
The food options being offered while the kitchen is closed are equally insulting. A sandwich and chips is not an acceptable meal, especially for students with dietary restrictions, allergies, or those who are gluten-free. This lack of care and planning is appalling.
I want to be very clear: students pay close to $6,000 to live on campus. When a student makes a mistake, the university is quick to issue fines or punishments. Where is their accountability now? Will students be reimbursed for paying to live in conditions that are clearly below standard?
This is supposed to be a safe, clean, and functional environment. Instead, it has become uncomfortable, unsafe, and neglectful. I have never seen a hot water issue take nearly a week to resolve, which makes it painfully obvious that this is not being treated as an urgent matter.
Your students deserve better Buffalo State. Your residents deserve better Buffalo State. Right now, we are being shown that our well-being is not a priority.
Lastly, I want to clarify that I have reached out to them, and the response was a reiteration of the only information we have been told. “We are working on it”.
