Hold Apple accountable for bricking legacy idevices
The Issue
In the span of a few years, two of my beloved devices—a 2nd generation iPod Touch and an iMac—were mysteriously bricked. Despite my earnest attempts to revive them, they remained in recovery mode, unable to function as they did before. Like many other users, I suspect that Apple has systematically bricked these legacy devices, and it's time to hold them accountable for their actions.
Apple has always been at the forefront of technology, introducing innovative and cutting-edge products. However, with each software update and new release, older devices are becoming obsolete, not because they’re physically worn out, but because they are no longer able to function properly due to forced software upgrades.
Tech experts and consumers alike have reported experiencing similar issues across various older Apple products, feeling compelled to upgrade simply because they had no other choice. According to a Harvard study on planned obsolescence, enforcing such premature aging of products is not only an ethical concern but a potential legal one.
I am calling for Apple to provide transparency in their software updates, ensuring that older devices are not impaired without direct consumer consent. It’s only fair that people who have invested in their products are able to use them for as long as they possibly can, without being arbitrarily forced into purchasing the latest model.
Together, we can make a difference. Beyond my own devices, there are countless others around the world facing the same issue. Sign this petition to demand Apple take responsibility for bricking legacy devices and ensure the future use of their products aligns with ethical standards, allowing consumers to decide when to upgrade, not be forced into it.
