The Issue

Cheltenham is about to lose its last undeveloped Greenbelt land. Identified by the local authorities as West Cheltenham, this covers the areas locally known as Springbank and Fiddlers Green and incorporates the village of Hayden, and is the last undeveloped Greenbelt circling the town.

It is and has been used for over 50 years recreationally by the local community, for such things as dog walking, accessing the local pub, taking in the glorious views across the Severn Valley to the Malvern Hills and even the Welsh Black Mountains, or just for watching the beautiful sunsets. This Greenbelt fulfils the criteria virtually 100% and is active agricultural land for both livestock and arable.

The Gloucester, Cheltenham and Tewkesbury Joint Core Strategy Team, and the HM Planning Inspector, want to release this land to build Alex Chalk MP's vision of 'Silicon Valley', basically multi story glass office blocks, industrial units and car parking for approx 9,000 together with 1,100 homes in Phase 1. Phase 2 will see the building of another 1,100 homes obliterating the village of Hayden as we know it.

It is not for the profit of the few, but for the enjoyment of the many.

We want the authorities and the Inspector to follow their own Planning rules regarding Greenbelt and leave it untouched, and even designate as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Please sign this and help us have a loud voice !!!!
