The UK Statistics Authority has a fine phrase that guides its mathematicians: "Numbers should be a light, not a crutch"
The Official Statistics Watchdog found that Duncan Smith (IDS) and The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) had repeatedly made false claims about the numbers of people living on disability benefits,
They were also criticised by the watchdog for misusing figures to promote the effectiveness of the coalition's benefits cap.
A petition organised by Jayne Linney and Debbie Sayers in 2013 resulted in IDS being questioned by The Work Pensions Committee over the way he and his department brief media about statistics. Iain Duncan Smith appeared before the Committee on Monday 9th December, 2013.
Iain Duncan Smith is not a friend of statistics. We do not know what these statistics will tell, but we have the right to know.
With this petition we are reminding Iain Duncan Smith and The DWP that they are public servants and that they will be held accountable by the British public.
Thank you all for signing this petition.
