ONE Evergreen
21 feb 2016
Hi, I'm Bryan Ben Elsea and I am a current Evergreen student attending TEC High School and Running Start at South Seattle College. As a college bound senior, I look forward to graduating this spring, ready for undergraduate studies in anthropology and sociology. Community is in the forefront of nearly everything I do. Throughout my tenure as an ASB Officer and Ignite mentor, I believed in the value of people supporting each other. Without the teachers, peers and campus staff there to support me, I would have probably felt like an ordinary number instead. These are the people who helped me open up to my culture and my passion for learning and helping others. When my community stood together to honor Kenney Bui, I was deeply amazed by its powerful solidarity. That event alone played a major role in my decision to major in the social sciences. Despite the daily burden of full time college study, I remain committed to supporting the growth and development of my community, both academically and socially. As a member of the Evergreen Campus Core Planning Team (CPT), I work alongside a representative sample of nearly 50 students, teachers, administrators, parents and community members to design the future of our high schools. You can be part of the planning process too! On Thursday, February 25, 2016 from 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM, there will be an open meeting for the Evergreen Campus community and stakeholders to voice their ideas and opinions on the future of our high schools. The meeting will be held in the Evergreen Cafeteria (830 SW 116th St, Seattle, WA 98146). Representatives from the CPT will outline the roadmap for accomplishing equity and parity for students at Evergreen Campus. The feedback we receive from the community along with work from the CPT will be incorporated into a design proposal representing the community's vision for ensuring success for every student in high school and beyond. After drafting the proposal, we will come back to the community one more time for feedback before presenting it to the school board. For more information on what we do as the Evergreen Core Planning Team, please visit http://www.highlineschools.org/Page/8404. We hope to see you on Thursday night, February 25! Much alofa, Bryan
