The Administration group of councillors on Highland Council seem intent on pushing on with the Option B that would ban private cars for going up and down Acadmey Street.

I attended an Inverness Business Improvement Distric (BID) event yesterday where we heard around 90% of businesses believe their businesses would be damaged if the scheme goes ahead.

A council officer said that journey times of 12, 13 or 15 minutes, instead of 6 minutes, would be a reasonable price to pay to get the changes in Academy Street. Those times were based on current journey times, ignoring the fact that the alternative routes via the Crown, Longman or A9 would become significantly more busy if 75% of vehicles currently using Academy Street were pushed onto those routes. Is it too much to expect honest assessments of such important issues?

Perhaps mention extending journey times, putting out MORE pollution, adding congestion to other routes, damage to businesses in the city centre and wider area, or limiting access for residents to the places they want to go.
