High Park Christmas Celebration.... The Lost Spirit of Christmas ….
Before the road closures to High Park, on a December Sunday all High Park visitors could be celebrating Christmas with Santa at the Zoo and the free Christmas Celebration on the Café Patio. families and friends came to enjoy the many activities provided by Children’s Garden, Colborne Lodge, High Park Zoo, Labyrinth and Nature Centre; sponsored by the Grenadier Fund with Hot Chocolate, Cookies, Face Painting, Raffle, Roasting Marshmallows, Musical Entertainment, Local School Choirs, Labyrinth , Santa handing out from his sack and a Tree Lighting ceremony.
With no access to vehicles this event is not manageable and has not been held for the past four years of weekend road closures. Why? It is not feasible , the event cannot be assembled without vehicles to provide transport for Groups, Volunteers, School Choirs, Fire Engine , Santa and the set up on the Patio by scattered Park Venues, also in cold and snowy weather many families with small children and Grandparents in tow cannot make the trek into the Park….
A wonderful Community Event has been destroyed and this is only one event that the City’s plan to close High Park to vehicles 365 days a year has sabotaged and with no vehicle access on winter weekends High Park has become a desolate and deserted place .

Merry Christmas to All….and to All “ACCESS”!
