Victory!
We have something to celebrate: the government of one of the largest GHG emitters, Germany, committed to a clear and close deadline to exit coal: 2030. this is a huge improvement with respect to the fuzzy and late commitment to do so by 2038. Local and international actions, including ours, have most likely played an important role in reaching this milestone.
Moreover, after COP26, other countries also confirmed that they would exit coal but way too late (2060 for China, 2070 for India). What needs to be done now until COP27 is not only to get those countries to exit coal sooner, but also to monitor and check how quickly all countries who have committed are acting on their promises. We will definitely keep our watch!
