Climate change is accelerated by CO2 emissions from coal power plants. But toxic gases and particles from coal-burning also create major risks to health. As coal resources in Europe and elsewhere become scarce, more land stretches are threatened by open-sky coal mines and mine residues. So it's also a threat to biodiversity. Compounded, threats to climate, health and biodiversity translate into increased risks for peace. This is why coal power exit should be a priority: it's a major threat for climate, health, biodiversity and peace.
