📢 Hesperia Animal Shelter: 14 Weeks. 700+ Killed. It’s time for ACCOUNTABILITY!

The Issue

Update:: 12-28-25 The CA Vet med board has denied all investigations into this shelter stating there isn’t enough evidence. And although- they have hired someone to oversee the daily operations- these unnecessary killings continue in higher numbers than before. Every animal deemed not friendly, scared, or otherwise doesn’t fit the perfect mold of a ‘shelter dog’ is automatically pulled away from public viewing and placed on the next in line to be euthanized. There new system for red listed dogs places these dogs in outdoor kennels out of the public eye. In temperatures in the low 30s at night. This is cruel and unnecessary. It’s bad enough that these dogs are going to die let alone punished and left on a cold concrete floor with no escape from the outdoor elements. We need change!! For the past 14 weeks, I’ve reviewed every single outcome report from the Hesperia Animal Shelter — their own public records.
Here’s what I found:
🔴 Over 700 animals euthanized in just over 3 months. ⚰️ An average of 3 animals per week dying in their kennels. 📉 A 36% death rate for animals who enter the shelter. 🚫 Almost no transfers to rescues or other shelters. 🐾 And the most devastating truth? ➡️ 1 in every 3 animals that enter this shelter will never leave alive.
Many of the animals killed were treatable, underage, or simply labeled “behavioral” without effort toward placement or rehabilitation.
These are not the numbers of a compassionate, fear-free, progressive shelter. These are the numbers of systemic failure.
💔 This shelter is not saving lives — it’s ending them.
I’ve submitted this data to the City Council. Now I’m calling on Hesperia’s residents, animal lovers, and advocates to demand answers.
➡️ We deserve transparency. ➡️ Our shelter animals deserve better. ➡️ It’s time for change.
