Over 20,000 sign petition against planned changes to plant variety law

The Malaysian Food Sovereignty Forum (FKMM) has collected 20,800 signatures in a petition rejecting proposed amendments to the Protection of New Plant Varieties Act 2004 (Act 634) to facilitate Malaysia’s participation in the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants Convention (Upov 1991). FKMM, together with farmers’ groups, environmental and consumer NGOs, student activists and academics, submitted a memorandum and petition to several MPs in Parliament today.
