PROPOSED NEW ASPHALT PLANT PROJECT
CONDITIONAL REZONING #R-2020-03-C PROTEST PETITION

We, the undersigned property owners, do hereby strongly and respectfully protest the proposed rezoning from Community/Commercial zoning to #R-2020-03-C on the following described property: portion of PIN 9586-37-1990. Asphalt plants are major sources of cancer-causing toxic air pollutants including arsenic, benzene, formaldehyde, cadmium, volatile organic compounds, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and very fine condensed particulates. These fumes are known to cause cancer, coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, severe irritation of the skin, headaches, dizziness and nausea. We also strongly oppose the loss of our property value, and the Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League (BREDL) has performed studies on the adverse impacts on property values documenting losses of up to 56%. Other concerns in addition to the loss of clean air and decreased property values are smell, noise and the danger of increased heavy equipment operating in our area. We, the undersigned, have personally signed this Petition and are owners of real property as well as residents and business owners located within the area for which the rezoning is sought.
