The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC) are among our nation’s strongest tools to help lift working families out of poverty by allowing them to keep more of what they earn. Last year, $6.3 million in EITC came back to Southwestern Pennsylvanians thanks to nearly 400 United Way of Allegheny County volunteers who helped prepare more than 10,000 tax returns.

As our government gears up for the 2016 presidential election, it is crucial these tax credits are renewed before the end of the year because without them, 50 million Americans, including 25 million children, will be left without a vital piece of their annual budgets.
