Help us to Stop a Dangerous Commercial Shooting Range in Edneyville, NC
The Issue
The peaceful community of Edneyville, NC, is facing a significant threat from a the construction of a commercial outdoor shooting range. This plan seeks to establish the facility at the end of a private residential road, in close proximity to hundreds of homes and a few farms.
Rezoning for this project is not needed because Henderson County has made the approval for a gun automatic if a 10 item approval list is complied with. This project will bring with it a host of challenges and disruptions to our local area. First and foremost this range is going to get SOMEONE KILLED. The Range is on low ground with homes located behind and above the range. It will be extremely difficult to stop rounds from going over the berm/backstop and hitting homes. The persistent noise pollution expected from the shooting activities would shatter the tranquility that residents and farmers currently enjoy. Furthermore, the increased traffic on narrow, unapproved dirt roads, primarily designed for residential use, would not only inconvenience the residents but could also pose substantial safety risks.
In addition to the environmental and lifestyle disturbances, studies have repeatedly shown that such developments can lead to a decrease in property values — a reality no homeowner in Edneyville should be forced to endure. As people who have invested their lives in this community, the residents’ quality of life must be prioritized over commercial interests.
The proposed shooting range stands against the vision of Edneyville's future—a community focused on safety, peace, and harmony with nature. Protecting the integrity and environment of our community should be our utmost priority.
There is also a major safety concern. There are 100s of homes that are within danger of being struck by stray rounds. There are homes within 1,000 feet of the proposed range and there are homesite within 650 feet. The rounds from small caliber weapons can travel up to 4,500 feet. Larger hunting rifles can travel up to 12,000 feet and a .50 caliber sniper rifle can travel over 21,000 feet.
Join us in urging the relevant authorities to deny the rezoning application for this shooting range. Stand with Edneyville to preserve our peaceful and safe community for ourselves and future generations. Please sign this petition to express your support and make your voice heard.
Rezoning Meeting is at the Henderson County Zoning Office at 2pm on Tuesday, May 6, 2025. 100 King St, Hendersonville, NC. Please attend if possible to show your opposition.
