With the implementation of NexGen, my home is now located directly under the flight path for the bulk of the planes landing at Long Beach.  The planes landing at SNA or LJB never used to bother me much until about a year ago.  Then I noticed planes flying over my house multiple times each hour and flights landing earlier each morning and ending later each evening.

I attending the meeting at the Senior Center regarding jet noise and was dismayed to learn our city had taken such little action with the airports or the federal government..  Furthermore, I was disheartened to learn our city officials either dropped the ball or were never fully apprised of the impacts NexGen would cause our community.

 The city has agreed to form a commission to study the jet noise issue and it my understanding the commission will meet with local airport officials regularly.  That is a good start but we need to do so much more than have meetings with city staff and airport employees.  We need to have high-level discussions with our state senators and congressional representatives and have our elected representatives introduce meaningful legislation that will directly help HB residents.  This is an FAA issue and we need to go directly to the source if we hope to have any type of change to our situation.

 The impact of the increased jet noise, pollution and frequency of landing flights can’t be underestimated.  NexGen has deeply impacted our community and we can’t be complacent and let the FAA continue to impose their inappropriate plan on us.  We need to continue to fight this mess and stay vigilant.
