Urgent help needed contacting Racine elected officials

The Keiser Golf Group and Johnson Leipold Golf Group have renamed their project at Shoop Park.  It is now called Lighthouse Dunes.  Their website has links to all of Common Council members as well as the Mayor.  When you click on the icon for emailing  elected officials a pro Lighthouse Dune letter is provided.

So, we need to everyone to contact the Mayor and Alderwomen and men to let them know you want them to protect Shoop Park as a Public Park.  As most of you know, Dr. Clarendon Shoop and his wife Ida, donated the land to be used as a public park in 1917 in perpetuity and that it always bear the name Shoop Park.  A deed, a legal document, exists, that should protect Shoop Park.

Their plan to cut down most of the trees on the east side and many on the west side will have a harmful impact on birds and other wildlife.  Their plan to use lighthouse grounds for a parking lot will destroy the beauty and serenity of that special place.  Also, the current golf course parking lot will no longer exist so many people who use that to bird watch or have lunch by the lake will lose that public asset.  Also, we don’t know what their construction plan will do to the sledding hills.

The DNR did not grant the developers a permit last November to fill in the wetland areas on the course - the areas that flood when it rains heavily.  The developers also have not received another DNR permit they need or the US Army Corps of Engineers permit.

We need everyone who has signed the petition to send a letter to the mayor and your alderman or woman if you live in Racine.  If you live outside Racine, you can send a note to Jens Jorgensen who is President of the Common Council.

We urge you to take action now.

Below are email addresses for the members.  To find your representative if you live in Racine click on the link below and you’ll be able to fill in your address.  You’ll find out what district you’re in and who your rep is.
