Help us keep our family (Stefany & Stefan) together in Canada
The Issue
**Help Us Keep Our Family Together in Canada**
This past year has been the most significant and challenging in my life. My wife Stefany Linares Alvarez and I found out we were expecting our first child on September 2nd, 2025. Something we had hoped for and dreamed about for so long.
Our son was born on Canadian soil, and we had always envisioned raising our family here, where we share memories and a future we want to build in this country we call home.
However, on my birthday October 15th, 2025, we received a devastating blow. The Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) issued my wife a one-year exclusion order due to overstaying her visa. This happened right after we learned we were expecting, adding an incredible amount of stress during what should have been the happiest time of our lives. Our son, who is exclusively breastfed, depends on this arrangement for his health and development. Additionally, my wife is undergoing ongoing medical monitoring, which is crucial for her well-being.
In April 2026, we filed an inland spousal sponsorship application. We wanted to secure the future of our family in Canada, but administrative delays, like waiting months for our marriage certificate from Service Ontario, postponed our application. We had intended to marry long before the CBSA stepped in, but unfortunately, our timing didn’t align with the bureaucratic requirements.
This issue is not just about immigration—it’s about keeping a family together, about a child growing up with both parents, about being there for your loved ones. I grew up without my father, and I’ve always vowed that my children would never face the same loneliness. Separation from my wife and child would deepen the struggle with my panic disorder and remove the emotional and practical support that is vital for me.
We ask for your help to make our voices heard and for actions to be taken to reconsider the exclusion order placed on my wife. Family should be kept together, especially when a Canadian-born child is involved—our son deserves the right to grow up with both his parents by his side and neither of them have health care in Mexico.
We have to return back to CBSA on the 3rd of November, 2026 to provide proof of plane ticket for my wife and son so they can issue the removal date for the end of November, 2026. Which would result in me missing, first Christmas, first birthday, first words, first steps and other things you only get to experience once while also trying to juggle a panic disorder with no support person and actively working full time hours to pay for our recently moved in home for all of us and paying down hospital debt from the C-section and other bills.
This will also cancel my son’s CCB benefit which we finally just got this month after many months of waiting with a huge review, making it financially more difficult to pay for everything as well.
There is hardship in every single aspect of this situation, I need my wife and son and they need me. We are very much interdependent. We also plan on expanding our family in the near future once her health is 100%.
My wife is also highly educated, she has a masters degree in hospital administration and a bachelors in nutrition, which she wants to convert to the Canadian equivalent and become an essential medical worker.
Please help us by sharing, signing and contacting MP Peter Fragiskatos at: peter.fragiskatos@parl.gc.ca and your local MP. We deserve to have the chance to be a happy family dealing with the normal day to day struggles, without the removal fear.
Support us by signing this petition to urge the authorities to review and reverse the exclusion order. Help us maintain the sanctity of family and support fairness and compassion in immigration processes. Together, we can keep our family where we belong.
