Help us keep our family home.

The issue

Our family has lived in this home in Yorkhill, Glasgow for over 35 years, and it has been our family home for pretty much my whole life. My mum and I moved in during March 1990, 9 months after I was born. Following my mum’s sudden passing in June, myself and my dad were refused succession by the housing association despite providing over 15 years of evidence showing our connection and residence at the property. We also had to find and pay for our own lawyer to fight this refusal.

We were also refused discretionary consideration and this week taken to court by their lawyers who were pushing for decree for us to be evicted and allow only 48 hours to pack up our lives and leave our family home and leaving us homeless. Our lawyer immediately argued against removal and our claim for succession.

We were then granted a trial scheduled for later this year.

At our most vulnerable time, while grieving the loss of my mum and trying to cope with our lives being turned upside down, we are now facing the possibility of homelessness and being dragged through costly, time consuming legal proceedings, forced into getting our own lawyer and they still pushed for eviction.

We have been told our circumstances are not exceptional, with what feels like very little empathy or understanding of the situation we are facing.

We are asking our community to stand with us, show their support and help raise awareness of our situation as we fight to keep our family home.
