Help Us Install Staffordshire's First Living Roof Bus Shelter!

Help Us Install Staffordshire's First Living Roof Bus Shelter!
The Issue
Are you a resident of Staffordshire, or visit Staffordshire for work or leisure?
We need YOUR help...
Hi ! We are Wilder Youth, and this petition is to urge Staffordshire County Council to help us fund and install a living roof bus shelter - the first of it's kind in Staffordshire!
The Climate Crisis is making itself known across the world, and our planet is at a crucial stage if we are to prevent further warming and consequential climate disasters. We believe that if we all do our part, local communities can come together to make a difference.
We are part of Staffordshire's Wilder Youth , a group of 16-24 years old who are passionate about the environment and want to make positive changes to our local community.
By signing our petition, you are helping us to show that people in our community want to see positive steps forward in fighting the climate crisis.
Our proposed Living Roof bus shelter can help do just that.
Living Roof bus shelters (also known as 'Bee Stops' ) have been popping up all over the UK for the last few years and we think it's time Staffordshire jumped on the band wagon too! In 2019, a petition in Brighton and Hove, directly led to the installation of a series of living roof bus shelters. Their council worked together with Clear Channel and the scheme was extremely successful and is a perfect example of how by speaking up and making your voice count, we can create positive change for our environment.
So what is a Living Roof bus shelter?
Living roof bus shelters are bus shelters which have roofs that are full of native plants and flowers!
These can support our native bees and butterflies by providing vital links between our parks and gardens. By supporting our project , Staffordshire County Council will be helping to fight the extinction battle that currently 41% of our insects are facing *.
These bus shelters can reduce the strain on drains by absorbing rainwater (helping with flood-risk and management), and can actively capture pollution and particulates from the air. We believe our project will help the council to show their commitment to Staffordshire's plan to reach net zero by 2050 **.
"Every Space in Britain Must be Used to Help Wildlife," - Sir David Attenborough
We want to work with Staffordshire County Council and Clear Channel to create and install a bus shelter that has a living roof , full of plants, bees and butterflies, and YOUR signature can help us do just that.
Thank you .
