For four years now I have felt like I have been tugged back and forth between the Walker county sheriffs department and the GBI. The Walker county sheriffs department presented this case to the district attorney as a homicide case to review to move forward and was more then willing to take it to court. The district attorney however refused to do so because the manner of death is ruled a suicide by the GBI. Walker county says the GBI will be the one that has to change the manner of death in order for this case to move forward. Yet the GBI will not budge on their ruling because they made the ruling based off the information that was presented to them at the time of the autopsy. No one from the Walker county sheriffs department ever contacted the medical examiner to inform them that they had changed the investigation from a suicide investigation to a homicide investigation. And because that one person did not pick up a phone and make a phone call I have been jerked around back and forth for years now. One saying we can’t do anything they will have to do it while the other stating they made their ruling based off the investigation and autopsy. Yet the investigation is listed as a homicide. All this revolves around lack of communication. Djs case went down hill from the time 911 was called and was a domino effect from person to person. In order to get this wrong made right all it would take is for the Walker county sheriffs office to pick up the phone, contact the ME and let her know of their findings in the case. Then it will take the ME to do the right thing thing and review the case in its entirety to make her ruling. Once that happens the DA can then proceed with charges. It’s that simple.

Doesn’t sound like much to some but to my family and djs children something so simple could be a life changer for us all.
