The Issue

We propose a thorough review and amendment of existing animal welfare laws. These changes should ensure better protection for animals like the herd in Harefield - who relied on compassionate locals rather than robust legislation for their survival.

Here's our story....

We are a small group of locals in Harefield, who tirelessly cared for abandoned and neglected horses and ponies throughout Hertfordshire and Hillingdon.

Just recently, we assisted World Horse Welfare in removing 13 neglected horses and ponies from a field in Harefield, where they were left to die by their owner after failing to receive adequate food or veterinary care.

Sadly, one of the herd, who we named Hope, did not survive the ordeal.

Our fight for the re-evaluation of animal welfare laws is not just about Hope and the Harefield Herd; it's about horses across the UK who suffer under inadequate welfare laws that fail to protect them.

Our cases are not unique; across the country, countless animals suffer due to inadequate legal protection. In England alone, over 1,000 horses were reported as fly-grazing or abandoned in 2019 (source: RSPCA). The lack of stringent laws and enforcement mechanisms allows such situations to persist.

We now URGE the UK government to re-evaluate our animal welfare laws to provide horses in the UK with the help and protection they so desperately need.

This petition is more than just a plea; it's an urgent call for change that will protect vulnerable horses from neglect and abandonment. Please sign this petition today – let's give these horses the protection they deserve by demanding stronger animal welfare laws.
