For years, it has been a dream of mine to create a dedicated space on the mountain where kids can play and practice sports. Having coached and mentored young children, I've seen firsthand how participating in sports helps them build resilience, develop teamwork, and enhance leadership skills. Unfortunately, families currently have to leave the mountain to access indoor sports facilities. This is not only inconvenient but also limits our children's opportunities to grow and develop through sports.

Fortunately, there's a solution right at our doorstep. Justin Cox came across an underutilized building at 2809 Taft Highway, he saw the potential and purchased the property with a vision to turn it into something that would serve the next generation. We connected and plan to transform the space into a thriving athletic facility focused on serving the youth and families on the mountain. I am now in the process of purchasing and rezoning the property to move the project forward. By rezoning the building to a commercial use, we can transform it into a vibrant youth sports facility. This building has stood for years, and by giving it a new purpose, we can avoid unnecessary new development while revitalizing an existing structure. It would serve as a hub for local sports, providing a safe and accessible space for the youth of our community to gather, play, and learn.

The benefits of such a facility are manifold. It would empower parents to support their children's athletic pursuits without leaving the mountain. It would foster a sense of community as families come together to support one another at games and events. It would also be used for gatherings to celebrate birthdays and other special events.  It would attract positive attention to Walden, making our town a model for community-driven initiatives that prioritize the well-being of our younger generations.
