The Issue

Residents of Westerleigh, Yate, Chipping Sodbury, Coalpit Health Frampton Cotterell and surrounding areas...

We need your help - Could you sign our petition and/or possibly attend a council committee meeting to show support for the protection of our greenbelt and community green spaces?

RWE, a German energy company, have submitted a planning application to develop two sites totalling 123 acres of farmland, into industrial-scale solar production. This will competely encircle Mousewell Farm (or 'Mowswell'),  fully enclosing the farm house and surrounding fields and farm land adjacent to the Wapley Bushes Nature Reserve, all the way down to the road into Westerleigh village (which is currently productive farmland growing winter wheat - Food). This will likely take upward of 45, 000 solar panels and they will all be 3 metres high (That's nearly 10 feet) industrial scale infrastrucure, BESS battery storage (6 large units) CCTV and roads dug up to lay all the cabling required.

Aside from being just metres from Grade II listed buildings (heritage assets) RWE and the planning officers at South Gloucestershire Council (who have recommended approval) are trying to argue that these 123 acres of GREEN BELT are GREY BELT. This is hugely dangerous.

It would mean we no longer have the ability to protect ANY of our countryside.

It would come at a great cost to our local community and will change the landscape for us and future generations. These are not distant fields, they are right on peoples doorsteps and the installation would last 40 years. That's also 40 years of BESS battery inverter noise (Please Google this sound  to appreciate how instrusive this would be)

This application has already been to commitee and been rejected. It is now facing another committee to decide again!  (It feels similar to children asking an adult for something they want until someone eventually says yes.)

Please sign our petition to demonstrate to the council that this is NOT wanted in our community. Doing this doesn't have to mean you are against renewable energy. South Gloucestershire has already approved numerous applications, totalling around 1,380 acres of solar in the area. THIS IS ALREADY ENOUGH TO POWER EVERY HOME IN SOUTH GLOS.

It stands to reason that not ALL sites will be suitable.

This is one of those sites.

If you care about protecting our greenbelt, please sign our petition and if you are able please come to show your support at the committee meeting (where the decision will be made) on:

THURSDAY 11th JUNE at 10:50am at Kingwood Civic Centre.

You don’t have to speak as we have all that covered but just your presence would speak volumes.

If you can make, it we would truly be grateful to see you.

If you have any questions or would like to talk to us in more detail - Please email: letstalk@savemousewellfarm.co.uk and we'll be in touch!

We can provide all the reasons /arguments to demonstrate it is in your favour to sign.

Thanks a million,
The concerned residents group
