The Issue

For almost 3 months, our beloved husband and father, Roy Schneit, has waited in the hospital with quiet courage for a decision that could mean life or death. Known to many as “The Lamp Surgeon” in New York City, Roy has spent over 25 years bringing light—literally and figuratively—into homes across the tristate area. His hands have restored beauty, but it’s his heart that’s touched thousands. Now, that very heart is failing him and he is in immediate need of a heart transplant.

Roy is a pillar of strength for his blood relatives and for the entire community he has touched with his work. He’s the man who stepped in when our biological father walked away—three children left behind, all under the age of 10. Roy chose us. He loved us, adopted us, raised us. He built this family with patience, kindness, and unshakable love. For 43 years, he’s been the rock we’ve leaned on, the quiet force who gave everything without asking for anything in return.

Now, he needs us. And he needs you.

His will to live is strong. He dreams of watching his grandchildren grow up, of holding their hands through life the way he held ours. Denying him a chance is more than a medical decision—it erases the man behind the numbers. It overlooks a lifetime of generosity, compassion, and sacrifice.

We’re not asking for special treatment. We’re asking for fairness. For humanity. We believe decisions like these must go beyond charts and statistics—they must consider the whole person. Roy deserves that. Every patient does.

PLEASE, stand with us. Sign this petition. Help us give Roy the chance he’s given so many others—a chance to keep shining light into the lives of those who love him.

Let’s not let this story end here. Not like this. Not when there’s still so much life, and love, left to give.
