Help Support Firefighter and Public Safety in High-Rise Fires

The Issue

If you live in, work in, or sometimes visit high-rise buildings, THIS affects you!

Firefighters and the public may be in danger from the confusion following the complete and sudden collapse of a 47-story high-rise attributed to “normal office fires”.

This kind of collapse in a Type-1 fire-resistive high-rise building has never occurred from fire anywhere in the world before. And, the national fire codes and standards have not changed to address this issue. Why not? This means firefighters and the public could be at significant risk if another high-rise fire like this occurs again.

Two institutions are in disagreement over the cause of the collapse.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) claims that it was due to ‘normal office fires’ and it was a ‘new phenomenon’ that led to a ‘fire-induced progressive collapse.’

However, forensic engineers from University of Alaska, Fairbanks (UAF), in their 4-year university study, have determined that it was from the near simultaneous failure of all its columns, which fire cannot do.

We, Protecting All Protectors Alliance, have started this petition to seek clarification, and we are requesting the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) to address this situation. The NFPA is the independent organization that sets national fire safety standards and codes in the USA.

Request For Formal Review:

We, the undersigned, care deeply about firefighter and public safety.

We respectfully request that the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) perform a formal review of the collapse of WTC 7.

The purpose of the NFPA review is to consider both the NIST Report and the UAF Report, and to determine the actual cause of the collapse so that the national fire codes and standards remain up-to-date, accurate and reliable, in the interests of firefighter and public safety.

Specifically;

If WTC 7 collapsed from "normal office fires" -

then the appropriate codes and standards, related to high-rise firefighting tactics, construction and fire safety systems, need to be reviewed and updated in order to reflect the new potential risk of sudden and complete collapse of Type-1 constructed buildings by office fires.

OR

If WTC 7 collapsed from something other than fires -

then, in order to clear up the confusion, we owe it to the public and the fire service, to dutifully declare that we have determined that fire was not the cause of the collapse, and reassert that the current national fire standards related to high-rise firefighting tactics, construction, and fire safety systems are accurate and trustworthy as written.
