First, we would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the 2,436 compassionate individuals who have already signed this petition. Your support speaks volumes about the collective will to protect Cyprus’s feral cat population and improve their welfare. Thanks to you, we have been able to raise awareness about the dire circumstances facing these innocent animals, and we hope to build on this momentum to create sustainable, long-term solutions.

One critical issue that has emerged is the Feeding Stations Controversy in Nicosia Municipality. Many caregivers and volunteers have tried establishing designated areas where cats can safely access food and water, yet they face opposition and bureaucratic hurdles. These feeding stations are a humane way of addressing the immediate needs of stray cats, helping to prevent starvation and the spread of disease. However, debate surrounding their implementation has left caregivers in limbo, further complicating an already challenging situation.

Winter rains and cold temperatures exacerbate the difficulties these cats face, forcing them to seek shelter in unsafe or unsuitable locations. Their struggles are further compounded by a newly reported feline coronavirus, which has been blamed for thousands of cat deaths across Cyprus. According to recent scientific reports, this virus poses a serious threat to the already fragile stray cat population, making it even more imperative that we come together to protect them.

Despite the odds, ❤️ hundreds of dedicated volunteers ❤️ continue to step in where official support is lacking. They cover vet bills from their own pockets, rescue cats in need, and post pictures and medical invoices in Facebook groups, where caring individuals make small donations to help them cope with the mounting costs. This grassroots network of everyday heroes is the backbone of cat welfare on the island.

To further strengthen our community efforts, we invite you to sign this petition if you haven’t already, and to join the following Facebook groups:

Your continued support and engagement make a world of difference.
