Dear Supporter of Help Stop Thrift Solar,
The developer has now placed a formal application and the 21 day clock for comments has started with a deadline of the 16th of July.
As a residents group we have been collating professional views on how best to respond to a formal application from the developer and we are encouraged that there are strong grounds for presenting a good case as to why the application should be turned down.
We now need your help by getting as many of our campaign supporters as possible to register opposing comments on the Epping Forest District Council Planning Portal following this link
or by using the below email, please quote the planning reference number and details of the proposal.
Email: appcomment@eppingforestdc.gov.uk

Planning Application No: EPF/1216/25
Address Land East of Tawney Common, Theydon Mount, Epping, Essex, CM16 7PU
Proposal Proposed Solar Farm (30MW) and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) (30MW) with ancillary infrastructure including access, landscape and ecology improvements.
For comments to be considered seriously they should be in your own words, stick to key topics and be factually not emotionally based. The below are the potential key topics that would be considered reasonable points for comment:
- Negative impact on the openness of this green belt area, reducing the leisure appeal enjoyed by so many recreational visitors to the area.
- Damage to the setting of the listed buildings (Heritage Assets) in close proximity to the scheme, Dog House pub, large Essex Barn next to the old cart pond, the cottages next to the pub along with other listed properties close to the scheme.
- Negative business impact particularly to the Dog House pub
- Loss of good productive agricultural land.
- Negative Impact on the local wildlife.
- Connection construction disruption on key roads from Tawney common, Gaynes Park, Fiddlers Hamlet, Stonards Hill, and Epping High Street, allowing for potential further extension of solar in the area.
The above list is not intended to be exhaustive however it should give some base points when commenting on the application and it should raise serious concerns from the planners when they consider the scheme.
Your comments to the council are critical to the success of our campaign and please join us in helping to protect this special part of the Essex countryside.
Thank you for your support.
