Thank you for your support !

Please share this with your friends and family to ensure we get our voice heard by our local politicians!

Here’s more detail on why this needs our collective action.

Background & Current Situation
:

  • Most sporting clubs based at HBF Arena are a not-for-profit organizations that are 100% run by volunteers
  • Facilities are typically rented from VenuesWest on an hourly basis for training and competition play
  • During the 2022/23 season the western playing fields were rented at $37.5 per hour
  • Until now clubs have received a 50% rebate from City of Joondalup for these ground hire fees
  • City of Joondalup also contributes 50% of the ground maintenance costs for these fields
  • In comparison, most other sporting clubs across Perth that are located on active reserves maintained by their local governments are provided free or heavily subsidised

Jan 2024 onwards:

  • VenuesWest are increasing their hire fees by 11% from FY2023/24. The western fields will now be charged at $41.62 per hour
  • As part of the new City of Joondalup policy, clubs will no longer receive a 50% rebate for these fees
  • Essentially, with both these changes, hire fees will increase by 2.22 times next season
  • Clubs will be forced to pass these costs onto their members through their annual subscriptions or cease operations
  • In comparison, under the new City of Joondalup policy, ground hire fees for active reserves will be hired at a flat fee of $6.03 + GST per hour (almost 7 times LESS than HBF Arena)!
