COULD YOU HELP?  APPROVAL NEEDED  BY PLANNING MINISTER AND HIS DEPARTMENT TO ENSURE THE FLATS START THEIR JOURNEY TO PROTECTION 

It was heart warming news that Councillors at the City of Boroondara voted to move to start the stage of the heritage protection process for these heritage flats. We are very grateful to our Council. However Council has to receive authorisation from The Planning Minister before it can do anything and this has been slow coming.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO SPEED UP THE PROCESS

We don’t want any further delays as the property owners have requested a demolition permit from the Council. Until Mr Wynne authorises Council to prepare and exhibit a planning scheme amendment they cannot start the process and the flats are at risk.

Dear Mr Wynne and DELWP,

Re: Heritage Matter regarding Amendment C361boro for the protection of The Kaydon Court Flats at 1 Cooloongatta Road, Camberwell.

We seek your support and ask for your urgent authorisation to prepare and exhibit a Planning Scheme Amendment to introduce a Heritage Overlay to The Kaydon Court Flats on a permanent basis and to give the flats interim protection.

The property is under imminent threat of being demolished, an application for demolition having been received by Council.  The site has been found separately by two highly regarded heritage experts to be Individually Significant.

On the 16th August 2021 all Councillors at the City of Boroondara voted unanimously to support Boroondara’s Officers’ Recommendation Report to proceed with the protection of The Kaydon Court Flats at 1 Cooloongatta Road, Camberwell. 1850 plus residents of Melbourne have signed a petition supporting the heritage protection of the flats.          

We hope you can provide your earliest authorisation to ensure these affordable heritage flats are not demolished and are preserved.
