Architectural Conservancy of Ontario - Port Hope
Apr 5, 2019

April 2nd, 2019 Port Hope Council voted to withdraw the intention to designate the historic Port Hope Hospital buildings at 65 Ward St. with conditions to the developer.

This action goes against the Provincial Policy Statement (PPS 2014) and Port Hope’s own Official Plan. We are reviewing the appeal process and will post updates as they become available.

The Council's motion was as follows;

THAT staff be directed to develop an agreement between the Municipality of Port Hope and Southbridge Care Homes to ensure that certain development approvals have been completed before the withdrawal of the Notice of Intention to Designate 65 Ward Street; further,
THAT the agreement, to be authorized by the Mayor and the Clerk and executed by By-law, including matters such as site plan approval, approval of building plans, construction contracts in place, demolition permit ready for issuance and the payments of all associated municipal fees; and further,
THAT upon the terms of the agreement being satisfied, staff be directed to seek Council authorization to publish a Notice of Withdrawal of the Intention to Designate 65 Ward Street per Section 29 of the Ontario Heritage Act.

ACO Port Hope wants to thank each and everyone one of you for your generous support in our efforts to save the historic Port Hope Hospital.
