Marchuska Brothers received a tax exemption not to exceed $37,360.00 from the town of vestal small business incentive program effective December 2024-December 2025. The Town of Vestal board voted unanimously for a yes to improve the facility for community public use for Skate Estate. Due to the fact that it concerns public funds, this information was published at the time but did take some digging to locate. The entire application, resolution document and executed sales tax exemption agreement are PDF files for your perusal. To change its use now from its intended tax-cut purpose may trigger a clawback (repayment) of those given incentives. According to law, Marchuska may sell or change its use but not without triggering a review of the public provided incentives on account of the fact that its original awarded intended use was improvements to a community development space. I am not a lawyer, nor do I normally engage in politics. This all makes my belly queasy and unless law is something you’ve been familiar with then this can all feel wildly daunting. I am not sure where this ends up after this is all said and done but at least we can make informed decisions about who we publicly support and why. At the end of the day, it’s important that we all stay informed and I think that creating public discourse on these topics is very important.
