Help Save Santa Fe Parks and Open Spaces From Developers Shovels

Help Save Santa Fe Parks and Open Spaces From Developers Shovels
The Issue
Petition to Preserve Legally Dedicated Public Park Boundaries In Santa Fe
To: The City of Santa Fe, Mayor, City Council Members, Public Works Department and Land Use Department
We, the undersigned residents and supporters of Santa Fe, demand an immediate halt to all construction and development activities encroaching on Candelero Park and other public green spaces until the legal status of these lands is fully reviewed and resolved in a transparent and public manner.
Candelero Park is a dedicated public park, preserved for community use through legally binding Park Dedication Documents. The recent encroachment by developers raises serious legal and ethical concerns, particularly the lack of public notice and transparency in the decision-making process. The citizens of Santa Fe deserve a fair and open process when it comes to the fate of their public spaces. We must act immediately to save our public spaces.
Therefore, we call upon city officials to:
1) Immediately halt all construction and excavation in and around Candelero Park along Zia Road that has damaged park land and destroyed official park survey markers, boundaries, and signage.
2) Conduct an independent legal review of the park’s dedication status and a determination of the boundaries as clearly outlined in the officially binding Park Dedication Documents of 1978.
3) Hold a public hearing to allow residents to voice concerns and receive official responses.
4) Strengthen protections and policies to ensure Santa Fe’s dedicated parkland remains preserved for future generations.
We urge city leaders to uphold their responsibility to protect Santa Fe’s cherished green spaces and ensure a transparent and just process regarding public land use.
