My name is Evelyn, and I am starting this petition to the San Bernardino County DA's office because I am afraid for my life and the life of my 11 year old daughter. My ex was sentenced in a DV case today- and his only punishment is probation. He stalked me and my family- someone tried to take my mom in a van- and this was AFTER I finally left him. His DV case was for hospitalizing me after he kicked in my face, my chest, and various other body parts. I crawled a mile and a half through the desert to attempt to escape him. The court case went on for over five years...and his punishment is four years of probation.

If this doesn't change, my daughter and I run the risk at the minimum of being harassed for the rest of our lives. We get phone calls from people we know who say they didn't call us- including several spoofed calls from the day he took this plea. Some months we get over 130 spam calls, and no matter what we do- his phone numbers keep falling off our blocked lists. That is the minimum danger- continued harassment that we are told we cannot prove so it will not end. The maximum danger is that I believe my daughter and I might be murdered. This man has previous convictions for assault, drug charges, and has known associates who are gang members. My daughter and I have been followed. She is trained to duck when she sees someone suspicious following us- after which we go into hiding as our previous attempts to convey the seriousness of the situation to law enforcement have failed. The law will not stop him from killing us or sending someone else to do so- but you can.

It is important to act now, because even though he took a plea deal I have the right as a victim to request to speak with the probation officer doing the pre-sentencing report. Sentencing has not yet occurred, and if pressure is put on them the judge who sees this case might realize the danger we are in before something happens. Please sign this petition and send it to everyone you know. I don't want anything else. I only want my daughter to live.
