How to get involved further - Contact your representative!
Hello,
If you'd like to support further, you can email or call your representative and ask them to cosponsor one or multiple bills regarding sustainable agriculture and supporting small farms. There is an approved format created by the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition, but you are free to write your own; The approved format is as follows:
“Hi, my name is ____ and I’m a constituent and a ____ [farmer, parent, concerned citizen, etc]. As your constituent, I’m concerned about [issue that matters to you most]! Will you support farmers and healthy communities by cosponsoring the [bill name]? Thank you!”
You can find your representative here: Find Your Representative - house.gov
You can see if your representative has cosponsored a bill already here: Congress.gov | Library of Congress
The bills I have focused on are: H.R.3844, the Sustainable Agriculture Research Act, H.R.945, the Strengthening Local Processing Act, H.R. 2723, the Local Farms and Food Act, and H.R.3814, the Future of Agricultural Resiliency And Modernization Act.
Please send me screenshots of any emails you may send/proof of your phone call so I can add them to my powerpoint (If you are not aware, this is for a Civics project. I am very passionate about the topic regardless.)
You can send me these at: clwsmithe49@clawsonps.org or elizabear828@gmail.com
Thank you!
