In 2015, former Northern Ireland Transport Minister and current Ulster Unionist Party European election candidate Danny Kennedy lobbied Newry, Mourne and Down District Council chief executive Liam Hannaway on behalf of JC Campbell owner Colin Campbell. The planning application he lobbied in support of is a major residential development next to the A2 protected route between Rostrevor and Kilkeel. Is it a coincidence that Mr Kennedy's reign as Transport Minister coincided with his department's inexplicable decision to bypass a transport assessment for this development? As Mr Kennedy is now standing for public office again we believe these revelations warrant a comment from the European election candidate.
