RARE - Rostrevor Action Respecting the Environment
Mar 1, 2018
Since our local Council's Planning Committee have shown as little heed to the concerns of the thousands of objectors as to those of their own principal planning officer and his multiple recommendations to refuse planning permission for an "inner-city" style development on the outskirts of Rostrevor, the time has now come to place the Council's decision-making process under the scrutiny of a Judicial Review. We are grateful to all of you who have followed this story and greatly appreciate the fact that many of you have asked about making a contribution to help the campaign. To that end, a legal team and fundraising structure is now in place and the wheels are ready to turn. In selecting our legal team we have made a conscious decision to avoid large, corporate law firms. Instead we have chosen KRW Law-LLP, an Irish-based human rights' law firm and environmental law barrister Richard Honey. Colum Sands who spoke on behalf of the objectors at Council planning meetings in August 2016, April 2017 and November 2018 is applying for the Judicial Review as an individual applicant in order to minimise legal costs. We have created a fundraising page on the CrowdJustice website (link below) and hope to announce further local fundraising plans in the coming weeks to cover the legal costs. Please give what you can, every contribution is greatly appreciated and every single donation helps in the campaign to make a real difference in caring for our natural and cultural heritage so that it can be enjoyed by all of us and the generations still to come. A victory for the environment is a victory for us all.
