RARE - Rostrevor Action Respecting the Environment
Feb 1, 2018
In the absence of a public consultation for the JC Campbell development in Rostrevor, mandatory for major planning applications in NI since 2015, RARE have endeavoured to inform the local community about the facts relating to this now approved development and to provide a platform on our Facebook page for the public to express their views, concerns or support for the development. We have posted regular updates over the last 18 months and received hundreds of comments from the public, one from the developer and comments from councillors from other areas. We greatly appreciate every comment and opinion, and for the respectful nature of debates on this development. However, with the exception of Councillor Jarlath Tinnelly, who expressed concerns about the scale of the approved plans, our locally elected representatives have chosen not to comment publicly. As our local councillors have taken the time to meet with the developer twice, in April 2016 and early 2017 at his premises, we would like to respectfully request that our councillors Councillor Mickey Ruane, Declan McAteer, Gillian Fitzpatrick, Michael Carr & Cllr Oksana McMahon, who have a duty to represent the interests of the wider community, now share their views on this development. We appreciate social media is not an ideal platform for councillors to express their views, but unfortunately in this instance it is the only forum available.
