Dear Petition Signer,

We have some important updates to share regarding our fight to protect patient access to compounded medications:

1. Progress Update:

Thanks to your support, we’ve made some progress! The Board of Pharmacy has removed the outright ban on glutathione and other Category 1 substances from the proposed regulations. However, dangerous restrictions still remain. The new requirements for testing and documentation will significantly increase costs and limit patient access. We are pushing to fix this and reverse the underground regulations the Board has enforced for the past four years, which have forced compounding pharmacies to stop filling prescriptions for nebulized glutathione and methylcobalamin B12 shots in California.

2. News Coverage:

Our movement has gained attention! Fox 11 recently covered our story for the second time, interviewing myself as well as sharing a testimony from Bay Area firefighter Stephanie Endsley, who depends on nebulized glutathione to detoxify her lungs after toxic exposure. We have also been publicly endorsed by the Center For Lyme Action and LymeDisease.org / Lyme Times, the latter which has published several blog posts on this matter. This coverage has helped us shed light on just how critical these treatments are and how threatening the proposed regulations are.

3. Important Board Meeting Info:

The Board of Pharmacy has reordered its agenda at the last minute, meaning the pharmacy compounding agenda item will now be discussed first, rather than later in the meeting. This change is not reflected in the official agenda, so it’s crucial for everyone who wants to comment to be ready to join early.

How to attend and exercise your 1st Amendment right at the Webex Board Meeting:

  • Attend the Meeting: Thursday, Sept. 12 at 9:00 AM PST. We have made it simple with access links, prompts, documents, instructions and more, all in one place at stopthebop.com/actnow
  • Want to give a public comment but can't attend the whole meeting? Email crystal@stopthebop.com with your email address and best phone number to text, and we’ll notify you as soon as the public comment period starts, so you don’t have to sit through the whole meeting. Then you can log out when you've finished giving your comment.
  • Follow us on Instagram (@stop.thebop) for immediate updates: We will be updating our instagram story throughout the entire board meeting to keep you informed.
  • Our official request for the BOP: (1) On behalf of the many patients and petition signers we represent, we must respectfully demand that the Board send these regulations back to committee. (2) We see no way forward unless the Board is willing to align with scientifically-backed federal and Pharmacopeia standards.

Thank you for standing strong in this fight. Together, we’ve made progress, but there’s still more to do! Please join as at the board meeting, and don't forget to email us your contact information if you want to receive a notification when the public comment period begins!

Warmly,

Crystal A. Frost, PhD
