Dear Members of the Marion County Board of Commissioners,

We are concerned citizens of Marion County who wish to express our deep concern and dissatisfaction with the ongoing overdevelopment occurring in Marion County and the apparent disconnect between the actions of the Commission and the wishes of the residents you were elected to represent.

Marion County is known for its natural beauty, unique ecosystems, and rural character—qualities that have attracted residents and visitors alike for generations. Unfortunately, the pace and scope of development threaten to erode these very attributes. As overdevelopment accelerates, we face the loss of green spaces, increased traffic congestion, strain on our infrastructure, and potential harm to our environment, including the springs and water systems that are so vital to our community.

Additionally, the influx of overdevelopment has led to a saturated housing market. This oversupply results in lower property values, creating a ripple effect that could destabilize the local economy. If left unchecked, this trend risks a market implosion with catastrophic consequences for the residents of Marion County. Such an outcome would not only harm individual homeowners but also reduce the tax base needed to maintain essential services and infrastructure.

Despite overwhelming public opposition, it appears that development projects continue to be approved without adequate consideration of the long-term consequences. Numerous residents have voiced their concerns at public meetings, through petitions, and in correspondence with your offices, yet their input seems to go unheeded. This disregard for the will of the people undermines trust in local government and raises questions about whose interests are truly being prioritized.

As elected officials, you have a responsibility to serve and protect the interests of your constituents. I urge you to take immediate steps to:

1.      Implement stricter regulations to control and limit overdevelopment in Marion County.

2.      Prioritize sustainable growth that preserves the county's natural resources and character.

3.      Actively engage with residents and demonstrate that their voices are being heard and considered in decision-making processes.

4.      Conduct comprehensive assessments of the environmental and infrastructure impacts of proposed developments before granting approvals.

Marion County deserves leadership that is committed to preserving its unique qualities for future generations. I implore you to reflect on the concerns of your constituents and take meaningful action to address this critical issue.
