We changed the law! No longer will the surviving spouses of our fallen forfeit their survivor benefit when service to our country causes the death. This impacts over 65,000 military surviving spouses right now. Thanks to this petition, grass roots advocacy on the part of military surviving spouses, disabled military retirees who are paying for the Survivor Benefit Plan, many organizations, and friends, who called and emailed Congressmen and Senators, we changed the law! We got bipartisan support from both parties working together to fix this injustice. Senators Doug Jones, AL and Susan Collins, ME  bill S.622 with help from Senators Jim Inhofe Jack Reed and Congressmen Joe Wilson, John Yarmuth, my Congressman Scott Peters, with 373 cosponsors  was included in final version of the National Defense Authorization Act.
