COVID-19: Care for Caregivers

Eric BonettiAlexandria, VA, United States
Apr 2, 2020

As a retired nurse, Mom was profoundly grateful for the hard work of her care team. Comprised of doctors, nurses, social workers, home health aids, friends and neighbors, she loved many of them. In turn, they loved her unconditionally, even when she was not at her best. Mom recognized their dedication and commitment, with many coming to sit with her and hold her hand on their own time when she was frightened or lonely.

Now, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, amidst projections of more than 100,000 deaths in the US alone, let’s not forget the risks to our health workers, many of whom are facing shortages of much-needed personal protective equipment. Like us, these dedicated individuals have family and friends who love them, yet they go to work each day, fully recognizing that doing so increases the likelihood that they will become infected.

And to all our medical professionals, who care for us at the most difficult moments of our loives, thank you. We are deeply grateful for all you do,
