Hi everyone. I wanted to let you know that Mom had a profound downturn this weekend.
Early Sunday morning, my cellphone began ringing furiously. It was mom and the hospice staff, saying she was having serious problems and couldn’t tell the difference between night and day and that I needed to come right away. My response was to jump in the car and make the 5 1/2 hour drive to Mom’s place.
When I got there, she looked terrible, having turned blue and become disoriented and incoherent. One of her favorite nurses was there, and said that while Mom had rallied and made a bit of a comeback, the end probably is not far off. The trip home was a painful reminder of that, as I brought back the ashes of my maternal grandmother, who died January 7.
Mom’s a fighter, and so am I.
I plan to keep after the diocese until it tells the truth, which is that my former priest Bob Malm committed perjury, abused his power, and more. Telling me that it will only get involved if Bob faces criminal charges doesn’t cut it — are we really supposed to believe that this is the standard to which Episcopal clergy are held?
I hope not.
Thanks so much for your continuing support. Here’s to a 2020 in which clergy of all denominations are held accountable.
