On January 20, 2022, RES 22-011 was introduced by Councilmember Heidi Tsuneyoshi as follows: "URGING THE CITY ADMINISTRATION TO ACQUIRE THE PROPERTY AT 54-406 KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY IN HAUULA (TAX MAP KEY 5-4-004:021) IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY FROM ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION, INCLUDING, IF NECESSARY, TAKING STEPS TO ACQUIRE THE PROPERTY BY EMINENT DOMAIN."

Back in November 2019, Pate and Annette bought 54-406 Kamehameha Highway Hauʻula HI 96717 zoned AG-2 General Agricultural District for the primary purpose of continuing their family farm and legacy for generations to come. 

Both Pate and Annette Taufa have been part of their community here on the windward side of Oʻahu for over 30 years. Helping the betterment of their community and youth while the Taufa family has been battling a severe health crisis. 

Today, February 22, 2022, Pate and Annette are now threatened by the city and councilmember Heidi Tsuneyoshi, whose land is being proposed to be taken away with no chance or opportunity to respond, saving their land of violations that have been admitted to. Pate has committed and proven to work with DPP (Department of Planning Permitting) to fix his violations and follow every proper permitting step that he was unaware of, but every permitting request has been shut down.
