In Victoria, too many rural communities are left dangerously far from emergency medical help. Towns like Mallacoota and Warracknabeal can face travel times of over two hours to the nearest major hospital. In a medical emergency, those extra minutes can cost lives.

We are not asking for a large hospital in every small town. What we are calling for is basic emergency care facilities - small hospitals, urgent care centres, or 24/7 emergency clinics, within safe reach of every rural community. These facilities would be equipped to stabilise patients, provide critical treatment, and save lives before transfer to larger hospitals if needed.

Every Australian deserves the right to emergency care within a safe distance, no matter where they live or what they earn. We call on the Government of Australia to invest in rural emergency healthcare and close the deadly distance gap.
